Honey Drops (Thenunda)

  • White rice – 1 cup
  • Urad dal – 1/4 cup
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Baking soda – 1/4 tsp
  • Food colour – if needed
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Water – 1/2 cup


Soak rice and dal overnight.
Grind the soaked rice and dal to a loose batter consistency.
Add salt and baking soda. Mix well and keep aside for 5 minutes.
Melt sugar in 1/2 cup water and make the sugar syrup for coating.
Heat oil. With a spoon, pour the batter to the oil forming small drops or balls.
Fry till done.
Soak the fried honey drops in the sugar syrup.
